MY FIRST MONTH IN CALIFORNIA!

10-10-2021

Since I'm still figuring out how to do the whole 2 schools thing I haven't been able to blog a lot. But no worries, the first one is right here! I'm planning to do a lot of crazy things with this assignment so you can expect a lot from now on! From blogposts to recorded challenges, you will read and see a lot of the fun American culture!

The following blog will be a quick catch up from everything you have missed so far. Here we go!

I'm not going to describe my whole travel from Belgium to California because it honestly was a crappy trip... Let's just say that it weren't the best 20 hours of my life. I've got separated with my friend, got yelled at, had to wait in Chicago for 7 hours, slept the whole second flight and then finally arrived in the beautiful state California and got to meet the most amazing family I'm staying with.

I'm going to try and make a video next week with a proper introduction of everybody so that you know who I'm talking about in these blogs 😊.

I arrived on a Friday so I had the weekend to kind of settle in. But in my first weekend we already did a lot of things because it was Martina's birthday (another exchange student who is staying within our host family). We even went to the Ritz restaurant. I recommend Googling it. It's a really big, chique and well known restaurant. For the rest of the weekend we just relaxed and I explored our neighborhood. There are a lot of fun places around where I can hang out with my friends like the pools, the BBQ stands,...

Then it was finally time for the first day of school. To be really honest, I wasn't even nervous. I don't know how and why but I just wasn't. Maybe that was good, then I didn't have to worry about everything. On my first day I skipped a half a day because we had a school tour (that's how big it is...) and we couldn't figure out how to open our lockers so we had to practice that 😊. We. Because me and Martina are in the same school. So I wasn't even completely on my own on my first day.

And in my first week I made a lot of friends already! I would say I had a successful first week. I was just doing everything in a 'go with the flow'-mood so I was really relaxed. I didn't really struggle with the language so that was a bonus as well, I just had to find a new rhythm. That's still a little hard. But if that is the only problem so far then it is fine. I'm really happy with everything I have accomplished so far!

The next weekend was again a fully scheduled one. We went to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame! It was incredibly hot that day so we decided to go early in the morning to at least see a little of it before we were to overheated. It was amazing! I had a lot of fun! But it has been a traumatizing experience as well. Los Angels is a big well known city and therefor there are a lot of homeless people. We've been chased by one for over 4 blocks! It was really sad but also scary...

The next to weeks we just took it slowly and I had the time to settle in a little more. I met a lot of new people and also made a good amount of new friends!

But in those weeks we also prepared for our trip to New York. (I know NEW YORK!!) We just came back from it actually. But I rather make a different post for it because we did A LOT! 😊

I love being here and I'm looking forward to share this experience with you!
